Corporeal.

Production is central to the design. The work is characterised by blemishes from sand grains faltering to molten silver in the cast, bumps where air escape channels were drawn into the mould and dents from hammering the piece into shape.

The development of the work continues as it is worn, marks are constituent parts of this concept.

Yips or No Freedom comes from a sports metaphor ‘the yips’ describing a typology of performance anxiety. The yips cycle has four stages, with the beginning and end characterised as

‘yips or no freedom’.

The yips are caused by a fixation on flaws, and interpreting these as an indication of weakness.

Yips or No Freedom is committed to sustainable practices, using recycled silver grain and compostable packaging. The mailer boxes, business cards and jewellery boxes are made from banana leaf. The foil logo embossment and the velvet pillow insert are non-recyclable.  Each piece is bespoke and made by hand.
